The Artist/ Red Tails/ Underworld 4 Review

Introduction: In the month of January I saw three movies one day after the other. The first with my mother, the second with one of my best friends, and the third with a group of friends. You probably already know which movies I saw based on this title so instead of doing three reviews I decided to do a trifecta to start up the year. Plus it'll give me a chance to teach you all something about movies.

The Gimmick: The Artist is a great movie and I recommend a lot of you go see it. It pays homage to the silent movie era with allusions towards Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable, Bette Davis, A Star is Born, Singin' in the Rain, and even Sunset Boulevard. Now I tend to love movies that pay homage to things like Star Wars and Indiana Jones but those series really stand on their own two feet as also amazing movies. And that's really the only problem with the Artist; it's a great homage movie but not a film that stands on it's own two feet. Our main character isn't an artist, he's like a stubborn show off. Our female lead is a fan girl. And honestly, the best thing about this movie is a dog. It's just nice to see all the stuff that reminds you of that era, but it's not Star Wars, it's Hot Tub Time Machine.

Sound and Music: Red Tails is a Lucasfilms production that doesn't involve lightsabers or whips, taking it's place is the Tuskegee Airmen. This movie has a lot of problems such as a lack of character focus, cop out for the villain because he's a Nazi, etc. But I feel the biggest problem with this movie is the sound and music. See when the intro started with an in airplane fight I was confused... How come it's so quiet? It felt odd and within 2 seconds I was already pulled out of the movie. Then the music comes into play and it's always crammed down our throat as if to prove that a moment is emotional. NO. STOP. PLEASE. STOP TRYING SO HARD. JUST BE COOL RUNNINGS. I WANNA SEE COOL RUNNINGS INSTEAD.

The Fourth Film: Fourth films in a series are always disappointments. It's when the series starts being superfluous and stupid. You can really see this in Underworld 4. The introduction could have been it's own movie, it's WAYYYYYY too short, it feels too much like Resident Evil, etc. But if there is one thing I like it's that in this world where vampires and werewolves are known to the public the humans are the superior species. I way too often see movies where vampires and werewolves are some underground thing that could easily take over the world but here it shows the opposite and even though it's neither good or bad it is a breath of fresh air.

Conclusion: Go see the Artist... Hot Tub Time Machine was actually good... And go watch Cool Runnings if you haven't already... Ummm... You can stop reading now... Creeper...
